Creosote Information

Application

Creosote has been trusted and used for over 150 years. Creosote has a proven ability to significantly improve the service life of timber used for various purposes, from utility poles, railway sleepers and fruit growing support to fencing posts, strainers and struts. Creosote is the treatment of choice for equestrian fencing as it deters the tendency horses may have of chewing on the timber. Pressure Treated at 110°C in our industrial vacuum tank ensures the optimum penetration into the timber significantly increasing the service life.

Expected Service Life

Our Creosoted Timbers are treated for Ground Contact and are expected to last 30+ years service life, However it is unlikely to experience a fungal or insect attack during this time.

Appearance

Creosote preserved timber usually has a dark brown appearance. However colour can range between black and light brown, over time this will weather due to long term sun exposure but will not lose its effectiveness.

How to Maximise the Service Life of the Timber

Retreat any cuts, notches etc with creosote (We supply Creosote in 25lt drums for retreats)
Never put a cut or notched section into the ground even if it has been retreated with creosote
Do not  point posts after pressure treatment
Avoid shortening of fence posts where possible but when unavoidable the cut end must have creosote applied but never used for in                                  ground contact

Always use the appropriate timber size for the purpose required
